Hippo High Voltage Submersible Pump Wins Prestigious SAFA Award

HAZLETON PUMPS won the top award at the annual South African Flameproof Association’s Simposium that was held at Khaya iBhubesi in the Free State on 29 October 2015.

The award ceremony took place during the prestigious gala dinner during which SAFA recognised companies and indivuduals for their contribution to the Industry.

The 2015 Winners were:

  • Most Innovative Product or Engineer Solution of the Year: Hazleton Pumps International (Pty) Ltd
  • Member of the Year based on Current Contributions: Schalk Kruger
  • Young Achiever of the Year: Olga Mothibedi

The HIPPO Flameproof High Voltage Submersible Slurry Pump was awarded as the “Most Innovative Product or Engineering Solution of the Year” and is the only product of its type in the world. HAZLETON PUMPS also won the inaugural SEIFSA award as the most Innovative Company of 2015 for the design and development of the HIPPO High Voltage; Submersible pump.

A need arouse in the mining industry to pump large volumes of liquid, containing solids, at high heads, this application would also require high power and this lead to the design and development of the HIPPO High Head; High Voltage Submersible Slurry pump range.

With the major application of this pump destined to be underground and in particular in the coal mining industry it was necessary that this pump would also be flameproof and the pumps’ design was upgraded to comply with the IEC 60097/1: 2005 Standards.

HAZLETON PUMPS is currently marketing the HIPPO Submersible Slurry pump range internationally with more than 70% of all pumps being exported and Canada being the biggest user at present.
