MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Welcome to the second month of the new year. I would like to wish all our members a very prosperous 2019. May this year bring full order books and successful businesses.

It is with sadness and of great concern to SAIF to learn that some foundries have started the year on short time and others foundries did not open their doors for business at all. We are aware that the industry is facing several challenges and need to take hands to resolve some of the underlying issues. Our newsflash in January informing members that the dti has not approved a National Pavilion for GMTN 2019 (GIFA, METEC, THERMOPROCESS and NEWCAST) taking place in Dusseldorf, Germany from the 25 – 29 June 2019 refers. GIFA is the biggest and most important international foundry exhibition. For the South African metal casting industry to be sustainable and competitive we need to attend events like these and I would therefore like to encourage our members to apply for assistance from the dti through the Export Marketing and Investment Assistance (EMIA) programme of the dti. SAIF also invites all members to attend an industry workshop hosted by the institute, the Innovation Hub, PEETS, Concepts 4.0 and AFSA on 13 February. For more information please click here.

The SAIF board requests urgent suggestions for our 2019 Annual Awards dinner that will be held in June 2019. We would appreciate any feedback and/or suggestions on the type of entertainment you would enjoy, the most suitable and convenient venue for the event and other logistics. Please send your suggestions to the office mbiljon@uj.ac.za

The board of SAIF have decided not to increase the annual membership fee for this year due to current economic conditions. All the best for the new year.

There will be no membership fee increase for 2019.

  • Individual Membership – R785
  • Small Company  (1 – 20 employees) – R3 500
  • Medium Company (21 – 75 employees) R5 200
  • Large Company (76 and more employees) R7 000

SAIF members are reminded of the members section on the website, for exclusive access to important information, opportunities, alerts and presentations relevant to industry. All members will be able to login and personalise the information they receive from SAIF.

SAIF Company Members: Company Member Profile

Company members will be categorised to assist casting buyers in finding the right supplier for their needs. Update your membership information

Members need to update their information for our records in order to receive their user name and password to access the SAIF website, technical presentations, company listings, tender and career opportunities, referrals for new products and enquiries received at the office for products and services provided by SAIF members.

Updating your information will also ensure that you are able to access discounts exclusive to SAIF members, as well as information on the events such as the annual Golf Day, industry exhibitions and conferences, workshops and any opportunities that are forwarded to the institute by industry partners.

Training

SAIF Foundry Technology Programme

Registrations for the first quarter of the SAIF Short Course programme was well received with 65 industry workers attending the training at UJ and 32 workers trained on site in Gauteng.

The current modules will conclude on 16 March 2019 and the Quarter 2 Semester will commence on 30 April 2019.  Contact Marina at the SAIF office (011 559-6455, mbiljon@uj.ac.za) for more information or refer to website calendar to view the upcoming courses.

Industry Workshop

SAIF in partnership with the Innovation Hub, PEETS, Concepts 4.0 and AFSA is hosting a workshop on Atmospheric Emmission Licences (AEL) and Energy Management on 13 February at the UJ Doornfontein Campus.

SAIF Technical Presentation

The next technical presentation will be held on 19 February 2019 at the Reading Country Club. The topics is Latest news and innovations in OES spectroscopy – Analysing cast iron with CCD spectrometers.

The event is hosted by SAIF and IMP Scientific Analytical (Pty) Ltd.

A copy of the technical presentation will be available on the members only tab of the SAIF website after the event.
