Young Foundryman/woman of the year.

This Award is to identify the potential foundry champions of tomorrow and to further stimulate their interest and long-term involvement with the South African foundry industry. Applicants to submit the following :

Full details of a practical, or technical, or research project they have completed in the previous 24 months. Company permission will be requested if this is considered suitable for publication in castings sa. Selected applicants will be requested to attend an interview with the judging panel at the offices of the South African Institute of Foundrymen. This interview will be the final selection criteria and will take into account the applicant's :

  • Technical ability and competence in a foundry discipline.
  • A passion and enthusiasm for the science and technology of making castings.
  • A commitment to the future development of the South African foundry industry.
  • The potential to promote themselves and their industry.
Paper must be written and typed in English.

All submissions will be kept confidential between the judging panel and the applicant.

Deadline date for 2002 - 28th February, 2002.

Unsuccessful candidates will have all documentation returned.

The decision of the judging panel is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Requirements :

  • Age - Under 28 years at the time of nomination.
  • Nomination - By employer or other recognised industry / academic body.
  • Work - Must be currently employed in a South African foundry at the time of the Award, and have been working in the foundry industry for at least the previous 3 years, or in full-time foundry technology study.
The Prize : An overseas study tour for a 2-week period to visit foundries and suppliers. Airfares, accommodation and subsistence costs included.
